Soon the municipality of Alburquerque and Anda will not just be a part of the countryside tour loop in the province because of its old Sta. Monica church and convent and “Prony” one of the longest, heaviest python breed in captivity, the old painting in Sto. Niño Church, the long white sand beach in barangay Bacong, Anda and the traditional “Buhat-buhat” rituals in barangay Badiang, Anda but also because of the newly created ecological cultural tourism destinations in the two municipality.

Three barangays in the municipality of Alburquerque namely Ponong, Basacdacu and Sta. Felomina and three barangays in the municipality of Anda are part of the Community Managed Ecological Tourism (CoMET) Project managed by Bohol Local Development Foundation (BLDF) under Focused Community Assistance Scheme (FOCAS) 2 - “Enhancing Ecological Cultural Tourism in Bohol” funded by the Philippines-Australia Community Assistance Program (PACAP) of the Australian Aid for International Development (AusAID). These barangays are being developed to become ecological cultural tourism destination wherein the local people themselves foster the protection and management of natural resources, culture and indigenous knowledge and practices for their economic enrichment and satisfaction of visitors. Initial tour packages were already identified for these areas; the {mosimage}Albur Calamay Making Village Tour Package in barangay Ponong, the Basacdacu Loom Weaving Community Tour Enterprise in barangay Basacdacu, the Albur Eco-Village Experience Tour Package in barangay Sta. Felomina of Alburquerque and the Candabong Eco-Cultural and Historical Experience Tour Package in barangay Candabong, the Bacong Cave Triangle and Long Beach Tour Package and the Lamanok Island Eco-Cultural Heritage and Mystic Tour Package. These packages will enable the tourists to take part of the actual demonstrations of the processes of calamay making, loom weaving, broom making and indigenous salt making, the witness the traditional rituals of the “tambalan”.

Series of community planning on the formulation of ecological cultural tourism management plan for the three barangays (Ponong-Aug. 2-3, Basacdacu-Aug. 8-9 Sta. Felomina-Aug. 13-14) in Alburquerque and the three barangays (Badiang-Aug. 22-23, Candabong & Bacong-Aug. 24-25) were undertaken to further prepare these communities in the implementation of the project. During the activity the results of the inventory of community resources done by the community organizers of the project, members of the people’s organizations (POs) and local leaders and the proposed tour packages for each barangay were presented. A number of issues and concerns were then identified and given resolutions in the strategies included in the drafted ecological cultural tourism management plans. These management plans are in concurrence with the draft ecological cultural tourism framework of the province and the national ecotourism strategy. Mr. Samuel Gulayan, BLDF executive director, Mr. Jake Daquipa, CoMET project coordinator and Ms. Marjorie Plaza and Mr. Glenn Pasok, CoMET community organizers facilitated the conduct of the activity.

The commitment of the POs and local leaders to present their drafted ecological cultural tourism management plan to the municipal local government unit for reference and adoption ensures the municipality to be not just famous because of “Prony” but one of the prime ecological cultural tourism destinations in the province.
